Founded on 1st September 1988, International Cargo Express is proud to be celebrating its 30th operational year this September. ICE started in a Sydney boardroom with just two men and one vision:
To offer superior customer experiences in international forwarding
Whilst we have seen many changes in our business and industry over the last 30 years, our commitment to this vision has remained constant. As we take a look back over the last 30 years we want to thank our customers for your continued support and our dedicated staff for delivering throughout.

Establishing Our Brand
ICE began in a small office in Sydney with Directors, Peter Timmerman and Robert Lipton. These two men, with their vision and determination, set the foundation of ICE securing global partnerships. These partnerships, many of which still stand today, enabled ICE to offer forwarding on a global scale.
Joining the team in 1989, German national and now Managing Director, Ronald Spahr began to grow the ICE client base. Within a year a presence in Melbourne was required.
Up for a challenge, current Director John Mangiafico flew to Sydney to interview for the position. With a handshake he become Branch Manager of the Melbourne office, comprising a single desk, phone and teleprinter. He soon after hired lieutenant Darren Pace now Operations Manager, who celebrates 30 years with ICE next year.
Over the next few years these two branches went from strength to strength. With the added presence of Directors George Kyriakides at the Sydney branch and Ian McDonald joining as a customs broker, the pathway to success was set.
As business continued to grow, customs licenses were obtained in Sydney (1992) and Melbourne (1994) allowing the branches to operate bonded warehouses. ICE also expanded interstate and commenced operating in Perth in 1995, and Brisbane later in 1997.
ICE was awarded a Corporate Customs Licence in 1996, bringing customs brokerage in-house. Today, we are proud to have four dedicated brokers, who offer a personal and tailored service, understanding our clients and their products.
Over the years we have welcomed working with business of all shapes and sizes. We handled our first major project work for Tubemakers in 1990 in New South Wales. In 1993 we arranged a tunnel bore for the Burnley and Domain Tunnel projects. By 2017 we were chartering Boeing 777’s into Australia and New Zealand for client Royal Canin. Want to know more? Whilst the landscape of freight forwarding has changed dramatically from 1988, our commitment to having the most capable people has been a constant. It is our dedicated and valued team that continues to drive our customer focused vision and deliver the high levels of service we are proud of.
Over 40% of our staff members have now been with ICE for 10 years or more. As we celebrate our 30 years in operation we would like to thank our team for their contribution.
